Yes thank you for sharing! I loved watching her most of all - she is so calm and I love when she takes her glasses off at the end and smiles! To be that calm when painting and not having a running list of thoughts throughout your mind is a great place to be, ie totally in the flow (like Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi - I loved this book btw and reminded me of this state which is also described by Zhuang Zi).

Tech + fear:

  • She applies paint to the back, yes - you can do this with silk. I also love silk painting and silk as a medium in general

  • Chinese painting is notable for the size sometimes being applied AFTER the painting is finished - not in this silk painting as is quite fine, but in some other kinds of ink painting - I have never got into this as quite scary and can literally ruin your work. Is to do with the framing process, glue on the back for scroll hanging etc. I like the miniature painting way of sizing first and getting over and done with.

  • On that note, the jadval border lines - apparently they were not only done after the miniature was finished, but also completed before - so like me they were also apprehensive about it and would rather 'get it over and done with' perhaps too

  • Don't be scared of the jadval lines though, that is not very good of a teacher to pass on the fear to students!

  • However having just watched the latest Star Trek series Picard on Prime the word jadval sounded a bit like Zhat Vash in my mind and, you know, they are scary
