    Travelling Apprentice Workshop

Hello fellow miniature workshop painters! It was very nice to see you at the monthly forum yesterday and meet some of you I only knew by name. Here is a picture of our traced painting in A4. A couple of points we would need to agree on before I transfer it to paper and outline: Is the level of detai

Persian horse man from the shahnama

Hello everyone! 🌺 After a little break from painting I took back my brushes and started this little guy! It's a copy based on CBL Per 277.15 from the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin. Manuchihr pursuing his father's murderer Tur, from the Book of Kings (Shahnama) by Firdausi, 16th century. I'll p

    Finished Mughal Faces 2

So here he is my Mughal Faces 2 completed. Thank you Vaishali I learnt an awful lot about the techniques & paint. I entitled this painting “that face” because he was testing and challenging 😂 like a lot of the men in my life! 😉 but I enjoyed the process and am an improved painter because of it! 🎉

    Help with outlines

Hello from somewhere in the middle of the Smoky Mountains! I'm moving across the country and taking the scenic route by car, and I've picked up my brushes during our week-stay in a remote cabin in the woods! I have just completed a fair amount of fine rendering for the rocks on this painting, and no

Background color and fine rendering over dark forms

Hello all! Attached is a work-in-progress (please ignore the messy clouds, the face, etc--I'm in the midst of a lot of deleting and starting again!). I'm particularly stuck regarding... 1) the background color behind the figure (it's an ultramarine blue lightened with a tiny bit of gray). I changed

    2020

Just wanted to share this piece of work I completed. Title: 2020 (Hibiscus stained hemp paper, natural pigments, watercolour, shell gold). This piece is inspired by the difficulties faced this year. Daily struggles were exacerbated by the struggles that came along with the worldwide pandemic of CO

    Sharing some work

I just finished this piece. It is based on a poem by my grandfather written in 1913 titled Forest Bridal Song. The painting is still fresh for me so I’m not sure what I think about it as I really can only see the mistakes. This is my second attempt at painting woth the miniature techniques so it’s n

    A water-clouds-ether work in progress

This is a piece I've been working on for the water, clouds and ether classes (three birds, one stone), composed to include all three of those elements. The image is based on the very weird, mysterious and multiple biblical references to nephilim coming down to Earth and mating with humans (see bizar

    Miniature Painting Technique

Hi. I am a novice when it comes to miniature painting technique. To get a grip with learning to paint in fine lines, I decided to use a Turkish tile design. The practice worked well and I was able to see my own mistakes while developing fluency. It would be nice to know what other techniques are go

    Siyah Qalam project

Hello All, This is my first post here on the forum. There is so much information here! I look forward to being part of it. Vaishali’s Siyah Qalam class was fascinating and very cathartic. Painting divs is somehow very enjoyable. I still have a long way to go with shading on this piece, and it’s been

    Masterclass: Faces

Vaishali's masterclass in faces is amazing! Vaishali has a way of bringing out the best in her students. With each face, I learn to see better. Soon, I will get the hair right! Here is the latest, a Chinese Persian face. Looking forward to the next one beginning in April

    Sunglower 🌼

Here’s my Sunflower so far from Vaishali’s amazing flower classes. I still have to render and outline the petals but the centre is finished and it’s my eclectic mix of Indian miniature learning with Vaishali and my newly learnt gesso medieval illumination with Toni Watts. Very First Painting - stuck on rocks

This is my very first go at painting a miniature painting and using the rendering techniques I just learnt in Vaishali's class. It would be great to ask some questions I have and get some feedback on techniques too, so I can make amendments where necessary and improve! 1) For my first go at renderi

    Intro course (oct20): first attempt

So lovely seeing everyone’s works! This is my first attempt and I really love the process - paper prep, burnishing, outlining, flat colour etc. I think next time I’d do bigger creatures, more clouds & way fewer rocks 😀 as I found tapai particularly tricky to do. I don’t think it’s quite finished bu

    Storm Cloud

this is my painting in progress for the cloud class. My main cloud is probably too dramatic but i absolutely love it! we will see what happens when the rendering gets finished. There are a lot of details that I want to do with the trees, the women observing the storm, and the castle but it wi
